Recovery & Resilience
An art exhibit and story telling event where participants share their path to recovery, how substance misuse impacted their lives and how they show their resilience.

This event is the culmination of National Recovery Month (observed every September) and a an opportunity to show art created to represent resilience. Art is used to share an individual's path to recovery, how substance misuse impacted their lives and how they see or show resilience. Art may be expressed in various forms, through paintings, sculptures, song, storytelling and more.

GUIDELINES

ELIGIBILITY AND CONDITIONS:
Open to all artists of any age working in all media, living anywhere in the world. Work must be original and can be for sale.*

ENTRY PROCEDURE:
  • Maximum of five (5) entries per artist.
  • There is no cost to enter.
  • After filling out the online form, drop off or mail entries to Downriver Council for the Arts, 81 Chestnut, Wyandotte, MI 48192 by Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024 by 8pm.

PRESENTATION:
  • Mixed media (2-D, 3-D), performance and installation will be accepted.
  • No restrictions on size; please contact us to discuss large pieces.
  • Artists are welcome to submit display items for their artwork if needed.
  • Spoken word that is submitted as 2-D art, must be framed and matted.
  • Performance art can be shown live at the reception. Please inquire.
  • Entries must be ready for installation in a professional manner. 2-D work MUST be framed and ready for hanging with wire attached. Artwork without a wire will be declined. Wire should not be loose and should be taut.
  • We advise not to use breakable glass on frames larger than 11”x14”. Prints can be hung with either Plexiglass or no covering.
Each entry MUST have the following information on the BACK:
NAME - TITLE OF WORK - MEDIUM - PRICE
NOTE: The DCA reserves the right to remove artwork not suitable for installation in the galleries. Any submissions not meeting these requirements will be rejected from the exhibit. By taking part in this exhibit, you agree that the Downriver Council for the Arts shall not be responsible for any losses or damage to artwork.

VIDEO AND ANIMATION SUBMISSIONS:
In-person exhibit: 1280 x 720 .mov or .mp4 uploaded to Google Drive or Dropbox where we can download is the best scenario. We will accept files on a thumb drive or CD/DVD. Do not format the CD/DVD as an auto play. Piece should be between 2-5 minutes in length. Longer submissions will be considered, but please contact us to discuss. Online exhibit: Link to Vimeo, YouTube, Animoto, and Wistia will be accepted.

ONLINE:
This exhibit will include an online portion. To include your images in the online exhibit, please follow the directions on this entry form. There is no extra cost to include your works online.

DROP OFF OF ENTRIES:
Deadline to enter is by Tuesday, September 17 by 8pm. Please note that you can drop off entries in-person and enter on-line any time leading up to the exhibit. Due to space limitations, we request that you only drop off in-person entries no earlier than 1 week prior to the entry deadline. You are responsible for shipping and return shipping. RECEPTION AND EXHIBIT RUN:
Closing Reception and Story Sharing Event: September 26, 2024 6-8pm
Join us for an evening of story sharing, light refreshments, meet the artists and participate in our community art project.
Exhibit Run: September 19-26, 2024
Parking and admission are free to the exhibit and closing event.

PRESS: If you would like to be featured in the media when we alert them of this event, please email us with a high quality image and description of your artwork asap. It would also be good if you can include a short bio or artist statement.

PICK UP OF UNSOLD ARTWORK: All unsold works of art can begin being picked up on Thursday, September 26, 2024 after the event. You have one week to pick up your artwork after the event is over. Please contact us if you need to make special arrangements to pick up at a later date. You will only be contacted if your work was sold. The DCA is not responsible for artwork left. You MUST pick up your artwork or make special arrangements to do so!

SALES: *DCA retains thirty (30%) commission on the artwork sold during the Recovery & Resilience exhibition. Artists will be paid no later than thirty days (30) after the close of the exhibition.

RIGHTS AND IMAGE REPRODUCTION: The DCA reserves the right to photograph/reproduce selected artists’ work for the purpose of publicity and promotion.
